2009 Chennai Music Season

My take on 3-D

I have become little sick of everyone talking about seeing Avatar on 3-D only. My take goes like that... Drink a 500ml hot drink like Old Monk without mixing water and walk into any theater.

You can feel 3-D effect in Any movie, any theater, any time without anyones help :)

Chennai's sad IT corridor

Chennai's IT corridor sucks in big way. First of all, it took years to come up. JJ started but lost interest and put it on unofficial hold. then, the DMK government came and little bit of accleration and opened it for traffic in phases.

But the road it not at all wide and hardly one and half lanes available for traffic. Large number of local population uses share autos, van for their commutation and block the left lane. Hi-tech buses (both government and software companies), Lorries occupy and curtail the overtaking to greater extent.

The linking to connecting roads like Thoraipakkam - pallikaranai are in such a sad state as drivers are forced to drive at first gear to navigate potholes, zig zag up and downs. Another example is the connecting road for MNM college.

I still cant figure out why they are collecting Rs.30 per round trip ! Pray the government takes some action to smoothen traffic flow.

Glitttering Music Academy

Wow was the atmosphere at Music Academy for this December 2009 season. Auditorium is completely refurbished, wooden floors on the stage, new seats, reworked floors, re-freshner smelling toilets... and what not.

Good work by the management but still smooth leg space remains a constraint.

Vande mataram

The great indian indian slogan "Vande mataram" needs to be changed to "வந்தே மாத்தறோம்" or "here comes to change" by our politicians.

The regional chuvanism is well established in our country and some states are waking up bit late with this slogan when compared to Tamil Nadu. Congress was playing with the people of Telengana for a long time now their election manifesto clearly supports separate state Telengana. But Congress did not try to arrive at consensus despite ruling Andhra Pradesh for a long time.

The issue of Telengana was so badly handled with no sensitivity to people, or attempting to arrive at consensus and it puts us into great shame and in our democratic process.



If splitting up of states is the only solution, then India can split Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, West Bengal and Gujarat would be in race to it and only poor Kerala would be left out due to its size. Even MK would try to split TN into two so as to smoothen his heir's power struggle... who knows...

I am for status quo and support splitting of Uttar Pradesh due to its size and their share of MPs berth in Parliament; Rest of the country can wait and focus on development to take India forward in economic growth.

Back to OMR on job. that means

Bad news will find its way

Despite not so really strong fundamentals, markets rallied heavily over past 9 months due to excessive liquidity, low interest rates. Stocks were in favour because lack of other opportunities in other instruments.

Finally, Dubai credit crunch would trigger the much awaited correction in equities. Let us see, how far this new story would develop and affect the prices.

As i say, in good bull markets, bad news will get ignored. In uncertainty, even a little bit of bad news would cause havoc to stock prices. We rallied heavily and were waiting for some excuse. Here it comes !!!

Kurbaan - Movie Review

Kurbaan movie is avoidable for many reasons. Acted by Saif Ali Khan, Kareena Kapoor, Vivek Oberoi, Om Puri, Kirron Kher, music by Salim - Suleiman, Directed by Rensil D'Silva.

If you want favouble review read the famous web pages....

# 1. Terrorism, fundamentalism, US bombing the innocent civilians are cliched topics.... they are discussed in bwn the movie as a matter of fact.

# 2. Dreaded terrorist Saif Ali Khan changes his mind every now and then including the climax ! He runs after the skin of Kareena like a dog runs after a bone.

# 3. New York living Kareena is a professor of Psychology. The way she falls for Saif in the first 10-15 min of movie is outrageous. No nice dialogues, interesting sequence but still she falls for Saif :(

# 4. Actually, Vivek Oberoi should have been shot in the movie for his hopeless acting skills. He competes really well with Sunil Shetty and Zayed Khan.

Forget my opinion, People in theater laugh loudly when bombs are defused and when FBI official Collins gets up from rubbles ! Thats not a good sign for a thriller !!!

Only thing i liked is the direction... the action sequences are done very well and the thriller element is quite good. But how much a director can salvage a below par story line despite the skin show?

I dont think this movie will work and recover the cost. let us wait and see the box office report.

Sad treatment to jawans

CNN IBN reported the story couple of days back that how gateway of india is used as resting, lodging place. Maharashtra State Reserve Police Jawans were not even provided a decent accomodation facility while they are on duty. Some 150 jawans are living in makeshift arrangement for the past one year.

It is sad and shocking while our Bapus and Ministers are enjoying all the benefits while in power or not... they dont even vacate the house when they lose power !

It is high time that state governments show some respect...

04. Hichki Hichki By Sunidhi Chauhan - 3/5 - neither a full blown dance track nor a melody. little confusing tune.
05. Gali Mudhi Ittefaq Se By Shaan - 4/5 - Melodious version of mudhi mudhi.
06. Halke Se Bole By Chorus - 2.5/5 - kind of prayer song.
07. Mere Paa By Amitabh Bachchan - 2.5/5 - Voice of Amitji is a total surprise in this track even though the tune is a let down.
08. Paa Theme (Remix)- 4/5 - It is not a slow track as you see in the trailer.

Lyrics are written with some rhythemic two words in every song. donno why such a consistency followed. Hope the director has got some cues in the movie. example - mudhi mudhi, udhi udhi, hichki hichki...

03. Behti Hawa Sa Tha Woh By Shaan, Shantanu Moitra - 3.5/5 - slow, soft melody expressing longingness.
04. Give Me Some Sunshine By Suraj Jagan, Sharman Joshi - 4.5/5 - superb track with some interestingly written rap interludes. Hindi / English combo lyrics. Impressive music arrangement.
05. Jaane Nahin Denge By Sonu Nigam - 3/5 - Typical pathos track. Sonu's high pitch singing is quite good.

Shantanu has done a decent job with feel good factor across all tracks.

Tum Mile - Movie Review

Tried our luck for 2012 and ended up watching Tum Mile. Had some expectation after reading reviews of TOI, B.W.H, Rediff. But the movie turned out to be a big bore.

Ex-lovers meet after six years and the flash back starts. Love story of Emraan and Soha starts in Cape Town and it oscillates bwn the present period. Present period is the fateful day in Mumbai floods, deluge in 26th July 2005.

No chemistry bwn the lead pair, very insipid love, fight incidents bwn the lead pair, very long movie with two and half hours duration with no interesting incidents makes you highly uncomfortable. In satyam where i watched, people started commenting loudly scene after scene. thats how they entertained themselves.

Only saving grace of the movie was the excellent music of Pritam. Pls listen to the music and avoid a visit to theatre.

Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani - Movie Review

Rajkumar Santoshi's Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani has got some excellent funny moments, some decent one liners, impressive performance of Ranbir kapoor, Katrina Kaif.

But dont expect a story, go for timepass and fun and you will get that instantly. Dont come out and think abt the movie., pls.

Art direction is so shoddy, "set" feeling is visible throughout the movie. Music was very average. Good for raj kumar who made a decent come back after two disasters - Family, Halla Bol.

இப்போ எல்லாம் பல பேர், என்கிறது பொண்ணு அமெரிக்கா இருக்கா, கனடால இருக்கா ! என் பையன் IBMல இருக்கான், எப்போதும் பிஸி, பயணம், அவன் தான் ஒரு பெரிய தூண் அப்படின்னு ஒரே புகழ்ச்சி, பெருமை !

சிலர் உபசாரம்கிற பேரிலே, சாப்பிட்டு தான் போகனும்னு சொல்லுவாங்க., அட போங்க சார், வந்ததே சாப்பிட தானே ! யார் காடேரிங் ? ஞாநாம்பிகா, அறுசுவை, விநாயகா.. நான் ரெடி, நல்லா மூக்கு பிடிக்க சாப்பிட ! இதை விட வேற என்ன தலை போற விஷயம் முக்கியம்...

என்ன தான் இருந்தாலும் எனக்கு இந்த கல்யாண விசிட் ரொம்ப பிடிக்கும் ! அது தான் எதுக்குன்னு இன்னும் புரியலை ! ஒரு வேளை சாப்பாடும், இந்த அழகான பட்டு புடவையுமோ?

Two Hours in Wedding:

Visiting a wedding is little difficult, we make it a point to go due to frienda and relatives.. But these Hi, Good morning, silly, meaningless smile, handshakes, how are you.. and some other sweet nothings makes life little difficult over there.. those are:

Some old person will ask., " do you recognise, identify me"? some times we come with success, sometimes we get caught in that tricky question !

Some aunty type lady will ask., " are you the sankar?, you were so small and now you became so big, r u in engg? etc"... unfortunately, what goes in our mind is something like this " what aunty, you are so good, slim and trim., but now you became like one kushboo".. we manage to sneak out with another silly smile !

Some people ask " u from bangalore, bombay?", that ---- hotel is still there, which locality you live over there?

Some people proudly, happily tell "my daughter lives in USA, canada" , "my son works for IBM, he is very busy, hectic with hell lot of travel"

The hosts usually ask " you must not go without eating"... I cant stop laughing at them... what do say dude, i came all the way to eat only, who does catering here - nyanaambiga, arusuvai, vinayaga? what else is important other than three course lunch in life?

Whatever we say, we feel, i always liked to visit weddings., not figured out why i do so... is it bcoz of these food and pattu sarees?

2. Puchandi Puchandi By Arathi Kankilar - 3.5/5 - decent melody on love philosophy.
3. Ragala Kaara Maaman By D.Imman - 4/5 - Jazzy feel. Nice singing by Imman.
4. Aruvi Pola By Krish 3/5 - typical melody, murmuring of boy on lover girl. Track has got decent music arrangement.
5. Ading Ading By D.Imman & Rita - 5/5 - Excellent mass number. Simple lyrics decorate this instantly catchy tune.
6. Odipolama Junkyar By Arati Kankilar & Dinesh Kanagaratinam - 4/5 - same as puchandi track. But the male rap/chorus is elevates this version.

Cant believe this album sounds such a decent time pass when compared naan avan illai album. Probably, the director, freedom makes such a big difference. My only doubt from this album is --- will ading ading track come close to the famous manmadha raasa track in terms of popularity ?

Senxex outlook - Nov 09

Much awaited correction, sell off happened by oct end. Sensex fell close to 10% in 10 days or so. Correction was quite heavy in metal, steel, realty and almost very less in IT, Pharma, auto stocks.

I feel, we can go up to 16500 levels and then fall again to test 14500 levels in November. Traders are advised caution while buying in gap-ups and instead buy in gap downs.

I would recommend buying pharma stocks, auto and auto ancillary stocks at every dips.

Update on Nov 27: who would have the much awaited correction in stock prices would come by the way of dubai uncertainities? Anyway, we went upto 17250 and started correcting. Let us see how far it goes....
